Family Assistance Center Setup and Navigation

When a family assistance center (FAC) is set up, the services should be focused on the victim and community needs. A navigator is highly important and should be included with your FAC plans. A navigator will welcome the victims and community members, stay with them for the duration of their visit, streamline the process, decrease the time at each resource while also decreasing the potential for re-traumatization.

About Jeremy Hagerman

Jeremy is a program manager concentrated in crisis response and emergency management with a specialization in strategic planning, and a work history as a paramedic firefighter. He is focused on victim assistance, with an expertise in promoting victim-based resources into emergency preparedness plans. Jeremy manages NOVA's National Crisis Response Team to assist local communities with family assistance center operations.

Jeremy has worked alongside state and federal partners to create full scale exercises that include family reception centers, death notifications, and family assistance center plans. Recently, he assisted resiliency efforts to the shootings at the Tops Market in Buffalo, New York, and Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Jeremy has a master's degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management and attended the Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security Emergence Program where he focused on the inclusion of victim assistance resources into emergency management plans, and formalizing comprehensive project management plans.
